John Lennons Imagine Essays - John Lennon, , Term Papers

John Lennon's Imagine John Lennon's Imagine is one of the most inspirational songs of all time. It always made people think about the words of his song. Some questions rise, such as how would the world be if there was no violence, religion, or countries bound by boundaries? The song came at a time when there was alot of protest. Lennon was always one to think of peace and harmony and the basics of life. When Lennon writes,Imagine all the people living life in peace(11- 12), he means that he wonders what the world would be like, if everyone were equal. There was no rich or poor, if there was no hunger, everyone just sharing what they had and no jealousy. Every country would have the same equalities and there would be no third world countries. That's what the song Imagine describes, an a utopian state. The message was communicated through music by an artist who was one of the greatest songwriters of all time. John Lennon and his wife, Yoko Ono, were twoof the biggest advocates of world peace. The song questions if we could imagine what it would be like to live like that. Imagine, is a song that will always make you stop and wonder what it would be like to live in a perfect society. Bibliography Imagine. John Lennon. 16 October 2000. Music Essays

World Hunger Essay

World Hunger Essay World Hunger Essay World hunger essay An estimated 24000 people die from hunger so a world hunger essay should start by pointing out that hunger is an important issue in third world countries. A global problem A good way to start a world hunger essay is to give a birds eye view on the issue of hunger by referring to hunger statistics the world over. It makes sense to start a world hunger essay with statistics from countries that are most vulnerable to food shortages. One of the greatest anti-hunger advocates - Sir John Boyar examined how hunger is a thorn in the side of all Third World counties and tried to offer solutions as the director-general of the UNs Food and Agriculture Organization. One of the first things we have to do he said is to stop viewing food as any other commodity and to see it as an essential to life. Move over Im famished! A world hunger essay can also examine some of the worlds most devastating famines and how they could have been avoided. Develop the topic After giving the statistics the next thing your world hunger essay should do is to examine the causes for hunger and starvation. These can be as diverse as:Large population Free trade Viewing food as a means to earn money rather than to sustain life Ending on a hopeful note How can the problem of world hunger be solved? End by offering possible solutions to the problem. What active steps have been taken by the government of various nations to fight world hunger? What is the United Nations doing to get food for the needy? These are some of the points a thought provoking world hunger essay should touch upon. Lastly a world hunger essay would do well to analyze some sociological theories on dependency that can change the face of world hunger and make it smile. Farmers from the third world should be discouraged from sending all their produce to other countries for profit. The world would fare better if everyone realized that feeding the hungry is more important than money in the bank. Since a starving nation cannot be a productive one. These are some of the points to be covered in a good world hunger essay.

Research proposal Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Research proposal - Essay Example Results of the multiple regression shall identify the predictors of effectiveness for both groups, and facilitate the compliance to the EMS pediatric care system. Following the quantitative analysis, selected respondents from both groups shall be interviewed to validate the results. The goal of the present research is to determine the predictors of effectiveness for both patients and healthcare professionals as regards pediatric emergency care at Hospital X. The two groups, having differing perspectives and needs, may have distinct factors that influence their effectiveness valuations. Pediatric emergency care has received increasing attention in recent years; the need has been exacerbated by lack of available primary care; the growing number of children who are suffer ring from chronic illness and who are dependent on technology; and other constraints such as manpower, resources and physical facilities. This study may help Hospital X better respond to these pediatric emergency care demands; to optimize the positive change that may be yielded from the study, both patients’ and healthcare professionals will be tapped for effectiveness evaluations. Since the roles of both parties are critical to the provision of emergency pediatric care, it is worthwhile to examine the factors which they perceive influences their delivery of emergency pediatric care. The Institute of Medicine Emergency Medical Services for Children Summary (1993) approximates that annually, there are about 30 million children and adolescents who are in need of emergency care. The gravity of the issue is realized in the fact that injury alone results in mortality in children between the ages of 1-19 than all other causes. Moreover, there are 21,000 deaths accounted for by illness and other disorders (Institute of Medicine Emergency Medical Services for Children Summary, 1993). The alarming realities

Reaction paper - Essay Example This was a bunker designed for war yet Germans managed to creatively put a semblance of home. On a larger scale, this can be reflected in the products that they make which reflects utmost creativity. There is a famous saying in German that goes "Wenn schon, denn schon". It meant that if there is something that is worth doing, it is worth doing right. In short, Germans are perfectionist with work and do not do half baked and half hazard jobs and this complements their creativity that led them to produce cars that is a symbol of luxury and creativity. There is another German clichà © that goes "Ordnung muß sein!" It meant order and everything should be done by the rules. As a result, they are conscious about time that being late among Germans is unthinkable and this reflects how they put value to orderliness. In a way Americans share the same creativity, thoroughness and orderliness with Germans but not on the same level. Gleaning on the example given about cars, Americans has Ford and General Motors which is not really at par with German Mercedez Benz and

Defining philosophy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Defining philosophy - Essay Example Philosophy is divided into sub fields since it is very wide and this depends on the sub-field an individual is interested in, for example an individual can study on epistemology, logic, metaphysics and ethics among other sub-fields. A sub-field of epistemology is scope of knowledge such as relationship between the truth and beliefs of certain community or group and how the philosopher can justify one theory depending on how the community or the group perceives it. Skepticism is highly valued in philosophy since it questions the possibility of justifying the truth and still regress the argument, meaning that one must support the argument with another justification. Munchhausen Trilemma perceive the study as a chain of infinitism where the chain of justification can go on forever, the next chain is foundationalism where this chain relies on basic beliefs of individual and lastly is coherentism where the chain keeps on moving in circular manner and the chain has its own chain of justifi cation (Munchhausen 56). The question of epistemology differ from scientific facts since according to scientist that knowledge is true belief that has been given account of by individual, and states that if something is actually known then categorically it is not false. Another question on philosophy according to Thomas berry is the universe being a communication of subjects and not a collection of objects. The foundation seeks to carry out great work of flourishing of the earth community; the theory promotes and distributes ideas on the great work, evening thoughts, the sacred universe, the Christian future and the fate of the earth. Thomas berry perceives the universe as a self-referential reality in the phenomenal world. Thomas terms the universe as text without context. The universe is seen as a story to many and the significance of the story is known, and still the universe story is quintessence of reality. Philosophers and scientist do perceive the story that

The Use of a SMART Board in Teaching

The Use of a SMART Board in Teaching The funding of this grant would pay for the purchase of a SMART Board Interactive Whiteboard on a mobile floor stand for the Pace University School of Education Department. The SMART Board allows professors to include and integrate multimedia elements into lessons, such as videos and interactive demonstrations, as a result making lessons and lectures more exciting. Students will be able to hear, see and participate with the information they are learning for that particular course. The SMART Board Interactive Whiteboard system comes with Notebook software. This software provides a variety of tools to help differentiate instruction. By having a SMART Board, professors and students are able to write with a digital pen or with their finger, onto the SMART Board screen. Files from Notebook can be saved in different formats, printed, emailed or posted; therefore, giving students complete access to course materials. Essentially, anything that can be done on computers can be improved by having a SMART Board available. In the elementary and secondary levels, teachers are constantly trying to create lessons and activities that meet the needs of all learners. I think that at the high education level, this mindset gets lost. The majority of courses are lecture based with essays and written examinations. Because of this set up, I feel that college students loose their love of learning and attendance and participation in courses begin to drop. If a student was a visual learner in high school, he will still be a visual learner during college. The interactive whiteboard caters to all different learners because it incorporates images, sounds and stimulations. Students are able to see, hear and interact with what they are learning. Pace University needs more technology. Pace University has been looking for ways to increase their enrollment numbers, as well as retention rates. Installing and assimilating technology onto their campuses could be just one factor in accomplishing those tasks. As a former Pace University student ambassador and representative, I was constantly asked questions about the types of technology that are in the classrooms and what students are being exposed to. By having interactive SMART Boards on campus, I think these questions would be eliminated because you can physically see them. Pace University also has an entire school dedicated to Computer Science and Information Systems. I feel that by having technology seen in the classroom, will also nicely reflect the impact of that individual school on campus. The students at Pace University would benefit from the purchase of an interactive whiteboard in a variety of ways. Students will look at attending class as something exciting. Students will also gain a better understanding of the curriculum and concepts being taught, due to the assortment of tools and resources that the SMART Board has that can be incorporated into lessons. Pace University, itself, would benefit from having SMART Boards in campus because students will be working on their communication and technology skills for the 21st century, therefore separating themselves from graduates from other colleges and universities. Pace Universitys motto is Work toward Greatness. I believe that by integrating the use of an interactive whiteboard into different courses that Pace has to offer its students, professors will inspire their students more. The Pace University School of Educations motto is Creating reflective practitioners who promote justice, create caring classrooms and school communities and enable all students to be successful learners. I believe that the students within this school, specifically, will benefit tremendously from the interactive whiteboard. They will be exposed to a new technology that is widely being used in schools all throughout the United States. Students will be able to have an open mind when it comes to technology and integration in elementary and high schools. Not equipping these students with these skills would be harmful to their wellbeing. Todays world is filled with different types of technology, from cell phones to IPads. Students are constantly surrounded with technology throughout their daily lives, which only makes sense to have that same technology become a part of their education. 2. OBJECTIVES 3. ACTIVITY 4. MEASUREMENT To enrich and improve Pace Universitys programs and set of courses through interactive technology and technology integration. To encourage students to be independent critical thinkers and flourishing learners at the collegiate level. To increase student motivation, participation, achievement and success. To have students plan and conduct research, solve problems and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources. To have future teachers become educated on a company and technologies that is regularly being used in school districts presently. To differentiate instruction for all students. To utilize the assigned course time in the most effective way possible. Assign web quests: Students will be encouraged to use Pace Universitys resources from the library, databases and reliable sources from the Internet. Students will use the research and technology available to them to help them decipher problems and answer questions. Interactive lessons: Students will actively engage within the lessons. Students will get out of their seats to participate and further their learning. Videos/Lectures: Teachers can embed videos clips that demonstrate the same concepts that are being taught in their course. Teachers can record notes from the course, save them and post/email them to students. Virtual Field Trips: Teachers can take their students on a trip during their assigned course allotted time. Presentations: Students can present their projects using the SMART Board in several ways: creating a NoteBook file, digitally creating it, recording their voices, etc. Exams/Reviews: Teachers can create games/activities that can help the students review concepts for examinations. Teachers can create examinations on the SMART Board. Workshop Session: Provide students with the opportunity to learn how to actually use the SMART Board. Students will be able to use the knowledge gained in their field placements and future jobs. Pre-course survey: Conducted on the first day, asking students about their interest in the course, predictions of their participation throughout the course, grade and end of course experience. Post-course survey: Conducted on last day, asking students about their understanding of the course material, if they were successful in the course, if they enjoyed the course, would they recommend the course and impact of technology used in the course. Informal assessments: Teacher observation, student journal entries/blogs on the topic of use of the SMART Board. Formal assessments: Lessons/lectures/activities can be video taped. Samples: Student work samples will be saved to be included in a portfolio. Attendance Preparation Participation Behavior

Diabetes Mellitus :: essays research papers fc

Diabetes mellitus has a long historical record dating back to second century AD. The word "diabetes" was first used by the Greek physician Aretaeus. The word diabetes means "siphon". It was first used to describe patients with excessive thirst and urination. In the 17th century, the word mellitus, meaning "like honey", was added when diabetes patients' urine was noticed to be sweet. However, the disease is not directly related to urine, but instead to the pancreas. Today many other symptons and complications of the disease are known. Although, the disease has many complications there are also simple treatments to follow to avoid serious problems. Diabetes is a familiar health problem that affects millions of people world wide. Diabetes results from the failure of the pancreas to produce a sufficient amount of insulin. Insulin is the hormone that regulates the body's use of glucose. Therefore, the excess gluce remains in the bloodstream and passes out the body in urine. In some cases, the pancreas produces a sufficient amount of insulin, but the insulin is blocked from the body's cells and cannot be used. This causes diabetes patients to have abnormally high amounts of sugar in their blood and urine. Diagnosing a patient with diabetes is more complicated than measuring the glucose level of urine only one time. Instead the diagnosis involves several hours of glucose-tolerance tests. These tests measure the rate in which sugar is removed from the bloodstream. After the test are complete, a high glucose level indicates insufficient insulin and the patient is diagnosed with diabetes. There are several symptoms and complications involved with diabetes mellitus. The symptoms are excessive thirst and urination, unusual hunger, a lot of weight loss, and fatigue. The complications are heart attack and stroke, chronic kidney disease, lower-extremity amputations, blindness, and death. Arteriosclerosis is a condition caused by prolonged high levels of blood sugar that causes the walls of small blood vessels to thicken. This condition results in heart disease and stroke. Kidney failure may be caused by inadequate blood circulation. Poor circulation in the legs leads to gangrene which may require amputation of the toes or the legs. New cases of blindness in adults between the ages of 20 and 74 are caused by diabetic retinopathy. This condition causes hemorrhages in the capillaries of the eye's retina resulting in a loss of vision. Pain or a loss of feeling in the arms or the legs is caused by neurophathy which damages the nerves.

Attack at Pearl Harbor

Kaci Power Professor Clark World Civ B April 24, 2012 The Attack at Pearl Harbor â€Å"Yesterday, Dec. 7, 1941 – a date which will live in infamy the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan,† Franklin Delano Roosevelt proclaimed in his speech to Congress. December 7th would indeed live in infamy for the rest of United States history. The day that the Japanese posted a surprise attack on Hawaii’s Pearl Harbor was a day that would not only change individual lives, but would throw our country into an unforgettable shock. The planning by the Japanese for this attack on Pearl Harbor began as early as January 1941. The United States had placed an embargo on Japan by prohibiting exports of steel, scrap iron, and aviation fuel to Japan, due to Japan's takeover of northern French Indochina. In September 1940, the U. S. placed an embargo on Japan by prohibiting exports of steel, scrap iron, and aviation fuel to Japan, due to Japan's takeover of northern French Indochina. April 1941, the Japanese signed a neutral stance treaty with the Soviet Union to help prevent an attack from that direction if they were to go to war with Britain or the U.S. while taking a bigger chunk out of Southeast Asia. The U. S. demanded that Japan remove themselves from China and Indochina, but would have settled for a withdrawal and a promise not to take more territory. June 1941 through the end of July 1941, Japan occupied southern Indochina. Two days later, the U. S. , Britain, and the Netherlands froze Japanese assets. This prevented Japan from buying oil, which would cripple its army and make its navy and air force completely useless.Toward the end of 1941 with the Soviets seemingly on the verge of defeat by the Axis powers, Japan seized the opportunity to try to take the oil resources of Southeast Asia. The U. S. wanted to stop Japanese expansion but the American people were not willing to go to war t o stop it. Prior to December 1941, Japan pursued two courses: try to get the oil embargo lifted on terms that would still let them take the territory they wanted, and to prepare for war. The Japanese military was asked to devise a war plan. They proposed to weep into Burma, Malaya, the East Indies, and the Philippines.. They expected the U. S. to declare war but not to be willing to fight long or hard enough to win. Their greatest concern was that the U. S. Pacific Fleet, based in Pearl Harbor could ruin their plans. Although it was Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto who initiated the plans for the attack against Pearl Harbor, Commander Minoru Genda was the plan's chief architect. The Japanese used the code name â€Å"Operation Hawaii† for the attack on Pearl Harbor. This later changed to â€Å"Operation Z. The Japanese specifically chose to attack on a Sunday because they believed Americans would be more relaxed and less alert on a weekend. The Japanese navy decided to cripp le the Pacific Fleet by a surprise air attack . The United States had received many warnings stating there would be an attack on Pearl Harbor. In October, the Soviets top spy, Richard Sorge, informed Kermlin that Pearl Harbor would be attacked in sixty days. Moscow had then informed him that this had been passed on to the United States. The United States completely ignored all mentions to an attack on Pearl Harbor. On December 6th, Roosevelt had read the first thirteen parts of the translated declaration of war that the Japanese had sent to us. The document stated â€Å"This means war. † This is when Roosevelt decided that it was time to proclaim war on Japan. Unfortunately, his decision did not reach Pearl Harbor in any helpful form before it was too late. The Japanese attack force stationed itself approximately 230 miles north of the Hawaiian island of Oahu. Early warning radar was new technology so the Japanese planes were spotted by radar before the attack, but they were t hought to be a flight of American B-17s due in from the West Coast. The attack started on December 7, 1941 at 7:55 am. The Japanese launched their airplanes in two waves, approximately 45 minutes apart. The first wave of Japanese planes struck Pearl Harbor at 7:55 a. m. The second wave reached Pearl Harbor around 8:40 a. m. I couldn’t find where the exact numbers of the people and supplies lost, but the Japanese managed to destroy approximately 20 American naval vessels, including eight battleships, and almost 200 airplanes. More than 2,000 Americans soldiers and sailors died in the attack, and another 1,000 were wounded. In addition to the grievous loss of human life, war materials suffered. The Oklahoma and the Arizona battleships were destroyed. The Nevada, California, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Maryland were all extremely damaged or sunk. The day after the attack, President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on Japan. Congress approved this with just one uncooperative vote. Three days later, Japanese allies Germany and Italy also declared war on the United States, and again Congress accepted. More than two years into the conflict, America had finally joined World War II.The Japanese navy scored a brilliant success and assured their ultimate defeat. Before the events at Pearl Harbor, America was divided on the issue of war. More of the country wanted to let Europe sort out its problems by itself, because of the painful memories of the First World War. As tragic as this event was it opened the eyes of American to the reality of the situation at hand. Pearl Harbors Attack is a day that will be remembered by American for the rest of time. The lives lost and the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for us.

Taliesin West - Organic Design in a Desert Garden

Taliesin West - Organic Design in a Desert Garden Taliesin West  began not as a grand scheme, but a simple need. Frank Lloyd Wright and his apprentices had traveled a long distance from his Taliesin school in Spring Green, Wisconsin to build a resort hotel in Chandler, Arizona. Because they were far from home, they set up camp on a stretch of the Sonoran Desert near the construction site outside of Scottsdale. Wright fell in love with the desert. He wrote in 1935 that the desert was a grand garden, with its rim of arid mountains spotted like the leopards skin or tattooed with amazing patterns of creation. Its sheer beauty of space and pattern does not exist, I think, in the world, Wright proclaimed. This great desert garden is Arizonas chief asset. Building Taliesin West The early encampment at Taliesin West contained little more than temporary shelters made of wood and canvas. However, Frank Lloyd Wright was inspired by the dramatic, rugged landscape. He envisioned an elaborate complex of buildings that would embody his concept of organic architecture. He wanted the buildings to evolve from and blend with the environment. In 1937, the desert school known as Taliesin West was launched. Following in the tradition of Taliesin in Wisconsin, Wrights apprentices studied, worked, and lived in shelters they crafted using materials native to the land. Taliesin is a Welsh word meaning shining brow. Both of Wrights Taliesin homesteads hug the contours of the earth like a shining brow on the hilly landscape. Organic Design at Taliesin West Architectural historian G. E. Kidder Smith reminds us that Wright taught his students to design in kinship with the environment, admonishing students, for instance, not to build on top of a hill in dominance, but beside it in partnership. This is the essence of organic architecture. Lugging stone and sand, the students constructed buildings that seemed to grow from the earth and the McDowell Mountains. Wood and steel beams supported translucent canvas roofs. Natural stone combined with glass and plastic to create surprising shapes and textures. Interior space flowed naturally into the open desert. For awhile, Taliesin West was a retreat from the harsh Wisconsin winters. Eventually, air conditioning was added and students stayed through the fall and spring. Taliesin West Today At Taliesin West, the desert is never still. Over the years, Wright and his students made many changes, and the school continues to evolve. Today, the 600 acre complex includes a drafting studio, Wrights former architectural office and living quarters, a dining room and kitchen, several theaters, housing for apprentices and staff, a student workshop, and expansive grounds with pools, terraces and gardens. Experimental structures built by apprentice architects dot the landscape. Taliesin West is home of the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture, whose alumni become Taliesin Fellows. Taliesin West is also the headquarters of the FLW Foundation, a powerful overseer of Wrights properties, mission, and legacy. In 1973 the American Institute of Architects (AIA) gave the property its Twenty-five Year Award. On its fiftieth anniversary in 1987, Taliesin West won special recognition from the U.S. House of Representatives, which called the complex the highest achievement in American artistic and architectural expression. According to the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Taliesin West is one of 17 buildings in the United States that exemplify Wrights contribution to American architecture. Next to Wisconsin, gathering of the waters, Wright has written, Arizona, arid zone, is my favorite State. Each very different from the other, but something individual in them both not to be found elsewhere. Personal Thoughts on Punishment and Justice essays

Personal Thoughts on Punishment and Justice essays Punishment and Justice: Personal Thoughts I do agree with the claim that the word human is a moral term that grants us certain rights, Ethics would not exist if the question of whether or not humanness carries moral implications, obligations and an overall essence of what should be considered right or wrong. As a human there remains a dependence on other humans, on the most basic level, procreation and survival wise, another is always needed. Expanding beyond the individual, families/clans, communities, and societies are established, to continue and further ensure survival. Regardless of philosophical stance; whether theologically based, or solely motivated by self-interest and physical desires, or bound to a social contract, it seems to be in the in the best interest of humans that standards of moral conduct in relation to how individuals treat each other are recognized. Rights therefore are inherent because in order for the individual to survive, more often than not the group must also survive. To live is a right-ev ery human has the right to live, and when in regards to communal living, standards of living also become a right, unalienable rights, such as the right to liberty. The idea that life, is not enough, but the ability to actively (freely) live that life is necessary for group cohesion. If everyone agrees that they themselves deserve liberty, than they must also concur with the argument that another deserves this right as well. To answer the question of whether or not imprisonment is a just punishment for criminal acts one must first define the terms liberty, crime and punishment. With liberty comes responsibility. If you believe that you have the right to choice than you must also believe that others do to. All punishment needs justification. In regards to the penal system, punishment is imposed on those who have done wrong, usually in the case of violating anothers right...to life and to liberty. ...

Strategic Management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1

Strategic Management - Essay Example In this paper, the analysis of strategic management will revolve around a small family business dealing with laundry appliances repair with only two employees precisely a father working as the technician and his son handling matters to do with administration. Strategic management comes along with many benefits to a business. Thomas and David Hunger maintain that firms that incorporate strategic management into their daily activities always â€Å"outperform† those firms that do not. When a firm enlarges, it becomes hard for it to afford following intuitive strategies. This is because, upon enlargement, a firm’s environment or its layers of management changes substantially (Wheelen & Hunger, 2011). However, as working environment continues to be more complex due to ever changing systems of management in the world, today, firms are applying strategic management as a form of cooperating and making the environment more manageable. Strategic management is beneficial to a firm mainly because it facilitates collection of information and formulation of policies. The laundry firm can use strategic management policies to gather information from external and internal environment which in turn corporate formulation of variables in the firm. With globalization comes broad market. In this case, globalization enables a firm identify general forces that include societal and natural environments that make it easier to identify different clusters of competitors and customers making it easier to combine a sustainable environment. It is necessary for a firm to have the suitable information in order to find ways in which it can fulfill its goals via its corporate mission (Wheelen & Hunger, 2011). Globalization makes it possible for a firm to have structural, resourceful, and cultural information, which is important for a firm to enhance its corporate strategy. In addition, strategic management enables a firm to implement the set policies and formulate the gathered info rmation, which facilitates assessment of its capabilities. This in turn draws measures that enable the firm to satisfy its clientele by improving its distribution of products and services via an organized system. The impacts of environmental sustainability to a business are many. For the laundry firm to achieve the best in its line of business, it must set in place models that play an important role towards creation a sustainable environment. This shows that businesses should have models that contribute to a healthy and safe environment. According to environmental experts, a safe environment provides a platform for economic growth and business sustainable development. In order to get benefits that come along with sustained environment, a firm must address environmental issues such as pollution. As such, this laundry firm should seek to address environmental problems in order to enjoy innovative solutions brought by new market opportunities (Wheelen & Hunger, 2011). In addressing com ponents involved in the environmental scanning and industry analysis process, analysts revolve around environmental assessment, forecasting, and monitoring. In this case, environmental scanning deals with macro environment, which consists of competitors, industries, clients, markets, and companies. Environmental scanning thus interprets technological and economic events as well as political trends that are influential to a
